Miami Beach Art Deco Historic District

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1979, the Miami Beach Art Deco Historic District is home to the nation’s largest concentration of 1920s and 1930s sleek and bright architectural style. The district contains some 800 designated historic buildings, though some of them represent other modern architectural styles from different eras of Miami’s history.

Located in the heart of South Beach, visitors can learn about Art Deco design during a walking tour offered by the Miami Design Preservation League. The League is a not-for-profit preservation and arts organization which preserves, protects, and promotes the architectural, cultural, social, and environmental integrity of Miami Beach and the surrounding areas. It also runs the Art Deco Museum and Welcome Center which educates visitors about the signature design elements of the genre, including symmetry, glass block, neon lighting, curved edges and corners, round porthole windows, terrazzo floors and more.
