As part of MOCA’s Art on the Plaza series, Autumn Casey’s “Clint and April” sculptural installation will be on view at MOCA's Plaza from Friday, July 29 through Friday, October 7. The outdoor installation features two swan sculptures, each secured on their respective plinths. Each sculpture is illuminated from within via solar-powered lights. Existing as a pair to echo the natural practice of swans who mate for life, “Clint and April” creates a tender space for the contemplation of love, beauty, ideas of worship and familial bonds. The installation features a performance with a written prompt of questions to inspire conversation between the artist and the audience.
Tigre Sounds and Rhythm Foundation kick off a Global Sounds Concert Series for citizens of the world with this debut by the Cuban singer, flautist and percussionist Yaite Ramos Rodriguez, aka La Dame Blanche. La Dame Blanche grew up amid family gatherings of extraordinary musicians, and the cream of Cuban music. Her father, the trombonist Jesus “Aguaje” Ramos, was the artistic director of the legendary Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club. Following her heart, she decamped to Paris, and immersed herself in the City of Light’s melting-pot. She joined the all-girl salsa band Rumbana, and the Grand Orchestre du Splendid, became a back-up singer with Sergent Garcia and live singer for El Hijo de la Cumbia. These experiences helped give birth to her musical alter-ego, finding her unique voice in a sonic jungle that fuses AfroCuban rumba, hip hop, reggae, and jazz. This concert will be her Miami debut. Presented as part of Miami Beach OnStage and with support from Casalú Rum.
